Trips & other off-site activities
We encourage school trips and ensure that all year groups access a trip to the mainland each year. All trips have an educational value and tie in with our current curriculum. Trip letters are sent home to all children and we aim to give as much notice as possible. If, for any reason, the cost of the trip is causing you an issue, we ask that you contact the school office to discuss confidentially. Children in receipt of Free School Meals can apply for a discount against the cost, it is not standard practise for all FSM children to have their trips automatically paid for.Â
Annual residential trips provide Year 6 pupils the opportunity to experience their first trip away from home. In the past we have visited PGL, with pupils from both our Year 6 classes. The visit allows pupils to form friendships with a wider network of children prior to their transfer to secondary schools.
Educational day trips
During the school year, teachers often plan appropriate outings relating to the curriculum. These visits help children to see a real purpose for their learning within the classroom, relating it to real life events and opportunities.
Some of the places we have visited are: The SeaCity Museum, Southampton, Carisbrooke Castle, Osborne House, Blue Reef Aquarium & Beaulieu
Charging policy
There is no compulsory charge for the usual curricular activities at school. For some activities, such as school trips, the school will ask for a voluntary financial contribution in order for the activity to take place. No child will be excluded from an educational activity because the parent has not made a voluntary contribution. However, the school may have to cancel planned events if there is insufficient financial support.
After School Clubs
We provide a range of activities, mainly after school, thanks to the generous support of staff, parents and volunteers. In most cases there is a charge for the Club to cover costs involved, however if you are in receipt of free school meals there will be a 50% subsidy.
We are very grateful to all those who give up their time to provide these extra-curricular activities and are always interested in ideas for new clubs, so if any parent/carer would like to offer their expertise to set up a new club, please do talk to one of the members of staff. Our After-School Club will run every school day from 3:00pm until 5:00pm and will be supervised by Mrs Swift, Ms Cowdrey, Ms Holt and Miss Whittle.
There will be 18 places available each day. The cost of the club will be £5.50 per hour, which includes a healthy snack for all children attending. Please note that no part-hour fees are applicable. All After School Club sessions must be booked and paid for in advance through Arbor.
Emergency Bookings
We understand that unforeseen circumstances can occasionally arise. If emergency childcare is required on the day, parents/carers should contact the school office as soon as possible to request a place in the After School Club. Please be aware that a place cannot be guaranteed if the club has reached full capacity. However, we will always endeavour to support families as much as possible in emergency situations.
Booking and Payment Information
All Morning Club and After School Club sessions must be booked and paid for in advance using Arbor. This allows us to ensure that we have appropriate staffing levels in place and that the required staff-to-child ratios are maintained at all times. Parents who pay using Tax-Free Childcare or childcare voucher schemes are asked to email the school office with the days and hours they would like to book for the Autumn Term so that the necessary arrangements can be made.
Late Collection Charges
Parents and carers are expected to drop off and collect their children according to their booked session times.vWhere a child is collected more than 10 minutes late, a flat fee of £15.00 will be charged to cover additional staffing costs. If a child is collected less than 10 minutes late, the usual hourly rate will be applied. If a late collection extends beyond one hour, an additional charge of £15.00 for each subsequent part or whole hour will be incurred.
The after-school club will be held in either Y2 or the main hall with time spent outside. When you collect your child, you will need to go to the school reception foyer. Displayed on the glass hatch will be the ASC mobile number. Please call this to alert the ASC staff that you have arrived to collect.
